Throughout this project, a defining element is a framework that dictates possible thought within it, and a constant tactic is to engage with it directly, not analyze it externally. This involves construction and deconstruction: a design revised to pinpoint its weaknesses, a process enacted to gauge its limits, an idea dismantled to observe what emerges in its absence. Focus rests on the boundaries — what a system excludes, what it omits, where its explanation falters — and these are understood as features of its creation, not errors to correct. Similarly, the environments of production— gatherings organized, grants administered, spaces occupied— are considered integral to the process, not merely a setting.
The process often begins with an existing operation and explores how to alter its behavior. Occasionally this involves reconstructing a framework to identify its vulnerabilities; occasionally it means pursuing a concept until its underlying logic emerges; occasionally it means bringing individuals and circumstances together to observe the breaking points. Each is regarded as a tool, not an outcome — a method of challenging a systemss ingrained presumptions by requiring those assumptions to perform. Linking them is a focus on the instant a process ceases to be self-evident, and on the insights that arise afterward.
